Microsoft has announced some changes to its free Power BI accounts that take effect on June 1, 2017. This article provides an overview of these changes and their impact.
Microsoft has made the following two main changes to the free Power BI license:
- Free Power BI accounts now include the data capacity and refresh rates previously offered with Power BI Pro accounts (10 GB of storage and 1 million rows per hour within a workspace).
- Dashboard sharing, group workspaces, exporting to PowerPoint, and exporting to CSV/Excel are available with Power BI Pro accounts but not free accounts.
Free Power BI accounts that were active as of May 2, 2017 are eligible for a Power BI Pro account free of charge for 12 months. On June 1, 2017, customers may sign up for the complimentary 12-month Pro account.
Microsoft's changes have one main effect on Planview's products; as of June 1, 2017, exporting to Power BI from a Portfolio Manager in Planview Enterprise or Planview Enterprise One – PRM (a feature introduced in Planview Enterprise 12) will require a Power BI Pro account. Free accounts that have used this feature are eligible for a 12-month free Power BI Pro account as described earlier.
The availability of Planview Power BI content packs are unaffected.
